Ice Castle Festival, 2010

Our landscape is pretty monochromatic in February. Everything is basically... white. With all the snow, bitter late winter winds, and ice coating nearly every surface, there is a tendency to suffer from cabin fever. It is probably an insane level of cabin fever that leads the people in our area to carve out massive blocks of ice and, with an insane amount of effort, transform them into a giant ice castle. I am fairly sure large quantities of beer are also involved in the construction effort.

It's a white, white world out there...

A very excited four year old

This same degree of cabin-fever induced insanity drives us to head out in the biting wind to go and look at this castle. This is definitely the coldest festival of the year, but also the most welcome. After a long, dark January and a long, cold March ahead, the festivities up in Mayville help to break up the winter.

Nolan, growling at me. He thinks he's a dinosaur.

We all had fun, but were definitely ready for some hot chocolate and the warmth of the car's heater after this festival!
