Halloween Catch-Up

The kids really wanted to gut their pumpkins. Matt was very brave and dove right in. Nolan, on the other hand, decided that pumpkin guts were extremely gross.

The pumpkins were finally gutted and carved. The kids drew their designs and I carved - Nolan's is on the left with the big eyes. Matt's was supposed to be "very spooky" and was very creative.

The kids' Halloween parties were the next day at school, so I copied an idea from Pinterest and made these really cute Jack O' Lanterns out of mandarin orange containers. I was happy that the snack was healthy - they get enough candy and junk food at this time of year!

I went to Matthew's classroom for the Halloween party last year, so it was Nolan's turn this year. He was so happy to see me!

Matt ran off to his classroom - he is very independent now. He was extremely excited for the day's festivities - though a little upset that I wouldn't be in his classroom this year.

Nolan was excited for school, too. He looked more like a Jawa than a Jedi from the back - the cutest little guy in a backpack that morning!

He went into his classroom and immediately got out his FM system for his teacher. His self advocacy skills and responsibility are excellent.

The kids went on the annual Halloween parade - I didn't manage to get a good picture of Matt, as he walked by too quickly and a few teachers were standing in between my son and my camera... so you'll have to take my word for it that he was extremely cute. I did manage to get a few shots of Nolan.

The Halloween party concluded with a few stories and donuts sponsored by the local PTO. The kids had a fantastic day at school, and came home full of energy.

We went trick-or-treating in our little neighborhood later that evening, despite the rain. It was a very wet evening, so there are no pictures from our foray into the neighborhood. The kids managed to bring home a surprising amount of candy for our little, rural street - this is because they are the only children on the block, so everyone gives them handfuls of candy.

I'm not the biggest fan of the insane levels of candy and sugar-induced hyperactivity, so I was rather happy when Halloween was finally over and we could get to the quiet, calm Thanksgiving season!
