California, Day 13: A Day at the Beach

Grandma and Nolan watch a kite fly

Our last day in California was bright, sunny, and so brilliantly perfect that saying goodbye and heading back to New York on the airplane was extremely hard.

We spent Friday at the beach in Oxnard. The kids played on the playground, then we headed for the beach to play in the sand and the water. Grandpa wanted to take a little rest, so Grandma and headed down to the beach with us.

It was quite a walk from the playground to the beach, but the boys loved climbing over the sand dunes.

Nolan was ecstatic to play in the water. The water in Oxnard is quite cold, but the boy wouldn't leave the water until his lips turned blue and we forced him out before he got hypothermic!

Matthew was far more interested in the sand, though he did play in the water a little bit. All it takes is some sand and one bucket to keep a little boy entertained for hours!

Who knew one bucket could be so much fun?

When both boys were thoroughly soaked and laden with sand, we headed up to the park area again to fly a kite.

Launching the kite

Hmmm... flying these is harder than it looks!

Proof we finally got it into the air!

We boarded our flight early the next morning, sad to leave family and friends. Nature awarded us a consolation prize upon returning to Cleveland airport - the weather was sunny and it was 70 degrees! We really miss visiting family and are counting down the days until we get to visit again!
