Swimming Lessons, 2013

Matt really took off in swimming lessons this year. It is always such a relief when a child becomes a fairly confident swimmer. He can do the freestyle stroke across the width of the pool, and can tread water for a very long time. By the end of this session, he was jumping off the diving board and having a grand time splashing with his friends.

Nolan came a long way in swimming lessons, too. He was kept with a younger group due to his hearing loss - he can't hear in the pool so he needs to be next to the teacher at all times. He was swimming by the end of this session. He doesn't swim with a good stroke yet, but can tread water and doggy paddle his heart out. He has a "bubble" float on his back in this picture, but he was (and is) able to jump off the diving board with no flotation assistance. A few weeks after this picture was taken, we went to a water park where he went down several water slides and splashed in the Lazy River to his heart's delight.

I love the fact that both boys can swim! It makes water activities so much more enjoyable (and makes this mama a lot less stressed around deep water)!
